From Sunday's Sermon on the Third Commandment ..........

The Name of Jesus ought to be treated with reverence, ...................

It grieves me to the core to discover that a new ice cream shop is opening in the Mall of America. The name of the establishment is SWEET JESUS. ..................

While His name deserves better, the name of Jesus must be magnified in a world that wishes to suppress it. Prayers to the Almighty God must be made in Jesus' name. ...........................

I have posted a forgotten hymn by John Newton (author of Amazing Grace). Many tunes from the hymnal will support these words. The tune from Amazing Grace is a good choice (other choices are listed at the bottom):

How sweet the name of Jesus sounds
In a believer’s ear!
It soothes his sorrows, heals his wounds,
And drives away his fear.

Jesus, my Shepherd, Brother, Friend,
My Prophet, Priest, and King,
My Lord, my Life, my Way, my End,
Accept the praise I bring.

Till then I would Thy love proclaim
With every fleeting breath;
And may the music of Thy name
Refresh my soul in death.

‘Tis the Season for Baby Jesus thoughts (vulnerable, weak, and so cute).
Baby Jesus is the LORD Jesus.
This season, do not forget that the Baby in Bethlehem…

  • Was worshiped. Jehovah God took on human flesh.
  • Was feared. King Herod was apoplectic.
  • Died on a cross.
  • Rose from the dead.
  • Ascended on high.
  • Promised to return.
  • Will be either your Savior or your Judge.

O for a Thousand Tongues / Lord Lay Some Soul / Amazing Grace / Jesus, the Very Thought of Thee / O God, Our Help in Ages Past / O, How I Love Jesus
